Award Categories
We acknowledge and honor the exemplary work of CEHD staff employees by nominating them for specific Staff Awards.
Recipients will be honored at an awards ceremony on March 27, 2025 at Centennial Hall.

Nomination Categories
Staff Customer Focus Award
The Staff Customer Focus Award recognizes a non-faculty, benefits-eligible staff employee in the College of Education & Human Development (CEHD) who demonstrates a concern for meeting internal and external customer needs in a manner that provides satisfaction to the customer. (“Customers” can be co-workers, peers or managers, as well as external customers of a service, such as students, parents or community members.)
Criteria for Selection
The selection committee will evaluate nominees based on how well they meet the criteria listed below.
- Considers the impact on the internal and/or external customer when taking action, setting policies or carrying out job tasks.
- Looks for external trends that are likely to shape the wants and needs of customers now and in the future.
- Develops creative approaches that provide or improve services that promote the CEHD as a customer-friendly college.
- Works to remove barriers that get in the way of giving customers top-notch service.
- Refers customers to the appropriate department or employee to solve specific problems and follows up to make sure that the customers have been taken care of.
- Promotes quality customer service by continuously working to increase knowledge and understanding of other backgrounds, orientations, experiences, cultures and countries.
- Creates an atmosphere in which others feel accepted and invited to participate and bring their unique perspectives.
- Develops creative approaches that provide or improve services that promote the CEHD as a customer-friendly college.

Staff Innovation Award
The Staff Innovation Award recognizes a non-faculty, benefits-eligible staff employee who has generated unique, creative and valuable ideas for the College of Education & Human Development (CEHD) and made it a better place to work. This includes the development of new processes or the improvement of existing methods, systems, products or services that improved any area of the college.
Criteria for Selection
The selection committee will evaluate nominees based on how well they meet the criteria listed below.
- Works to improve any area of CEHD operations (i.e. physical changes, staff morale, the handling of daily situations or operations).
- Identifies creative solutions, large or small in scope, that make a significant and positive difference and contribute to the CEHD.
- Takes initiative on a problem or need that improves or enhances services and improves the quality of products or services.
- Shows initiative by doing more than is required or expected in the job.
- Displays a high level of curiosity and translates it into new approaches to solutions; translates adversity into opportunities for improvement.
- Plans for potential problems or opportunities and takes appropriate action.
- Tries new ideas after considering all factors involved and potential consequences and outcomes.

Staff Community Builder Award
The Staff Community Builder Award recognizes a non-faculty, benefits-eligible staff member who demonstrates a record of building and fostering collaborations in the College of Education & Human Development and across the university to bring a positive transformational change.
Criteria for Selection
The selection committee will evaluate nominees based on how well they meet the criteria listed below.
- Equity and Inclusion: Shows a strong commitment to making our community more equitable by connecting people and breaking down barriers.
- Advocacy: Supports and empowers underrepresented groups.
- Innovation: Finds creative ways to meet needs and improve services.
- Collaboration: Works in or leads groups that address specific needs through ongoing activities.
- Guidance: Provides valuable advice and strategies to help solve problems and meet goals.
- Inspiration: Motivates others to work toward a more equitable community.

Staff Mentoring Award
The Staff Mentoring Award recognizes a non-faculty, benefits-eligible staff-employee who exemplifies the college’s commitment to providing mentoring as administrative support to the College of Education & Human Development (CEHD) staff. The mentor is a role model and resource for guidance toward successful outcomes for CEHD and the mentee(s) professional growth.
Criteria for Selection
The Staff Awards selection committee will evaluate the nominations on the degree to which the nominees meet and exceed in the following criteria:
- A demonstrated commitment to supporting the intellectual, creative, and professional growth of mentee(s).
- Evidence of sustained involvement in professional mentoring relationships that result in growth and development of the mentee(s).
- Serves as a senior partner in a series of mentoring activities.
- Serves as a senior partner in the design and analysis of mentoring activities that promote professional growth of the mentee(s).

Rising S.T.A.R. (Early Career) Staff Award
The Rising S.T.A.R. (Self-starter, Teamwork, Adaptability, Relationships) Staff Award recognizes a non-faculty, benefits-eligible staff employee who demonstrates a record of excellence, impact and professional service in only two to five years of working in the College of Education & Human Development (CEHD). The staff member’s record indicates strong potential for continuing to make positive contributions to the college.
Criteria for Selection
The selection committee will evaluate nominees based on how well they meet the criteria listed below.
- Self-starter: Is motivated to set and achieve goals and take initiative. Constantly pushes themselves by setting higher yet realistic and achievable goals.
- Teamwork: Demonstrates heightened awareness and appreciation of cultural diversity within CEHD. Practices positivity.
- Adaptability: Demonstrates adaptability to the changing business environment. Has a strong record of moving past obstacles by finding solutions to accomplish goals and uphold university policies. Demonstrates a focus on favorable outcomes.
- Relationships: Demonstrates curiosity and love for learning and applies that to enrich their work and professional relationships. Builds and fosters collaborations and gains inspiration from their peers.
